National Day of Puppetry

Gina Wilhelm Actress - National Day of Puppetry

April 28th was the National Day of Puppetry.  Gina Wilhelm Actress celebrated by watching some excellent puppets and puppetry in "Ghostbusters" in 70 mm at the beautiful Cinerama in Seattle.

The film was preceded by a talk from Sam Longoria, who worked on the film, including in some capacities with the onionhead/"Slimer" puppet.

Several puppet centers held workshops and other special events, including the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, GA, and the Puppet Guild of Greater St. Louis, Inc.

My celebration will continue this week with the opening of Thistle Theatre's production of Goldilocks and the Three Bears at Sunset Hill Community Club in Ballard, WA (3003 NW 66th Street). Shows are Friday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m., and May 5 and 6 at 1 and 3 p.m. Tickets are $8 for children and seniors, $9 for adults.

I will also be performing with Thistle Theatre at the Fussy Cloud Puppet Slam on May 5 at 8 p.m. at Theatre off Jackson, 409 7th Avenue South. Tickets are $10.

Happy National Day of Puppetry!

I Am Legend

Gina Wilhelm Actress - i am legend

Francis Lawrence, director of the 2007 Will Smith movie "I Am Legend," has received an offer to direct the sequel to "The Hunger Games."

The choice for Lawrence to direct the second movie, titled "Catching Fire," has fans excited.

Firstshowing.net points out that "The kind of action we'll see in 'Catching Fire' isn't much different that [sic] 'I Am Legend.'"

Jennifer Lawrence

Gina Wilhelm Actress - Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence made her film debut in 2008's "Garden Party." She received an Oscar nomination for "Winter's Bone" in 2011 and played the young Mystique in "X-Men: First Class."

Now she plays Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games," which has set box office records already, in only its second day of release.

In spite of this, the the 21-year-old actress "says it simply feels like she’s been handed a big promotion at work."

Congratulations on your success, Jennifer!

Zooey Deschanel

Gina Wilhelm Actress - Zooey Deschanel

Actress Zooey Deschanel is sweet in her roles, especially in movies like "(500) Days of Summer" and "Elf."

However, she may have gone too far this time. Some critics are calling her new series "New Girl" "twee" and "atrociously cute."

On the other hand, Matt Roush of TV Guide likes her "zany vulnerability," while Alan Sepinwall at Hitflix finds the sitcom the "best new comedy of the fall season."

Which side do you fall on? Is Zooey just cute enough, or just too twee?

Only Six Days Left To Vote For the Gregory Awards!

Gina Wilhelm Actress - Only Six Days Left To Vote For the Gregory Awards!

Every Fall, Theatre Puget Sound bestows the Gregory A. Falls Sustained Achievement Awards on a number of deserving actors, designers, theater companies, and productions.

Although the first set of nominations have occurred, there is still time to submit nominees for the Members' voice and People's choice categories.

Members' voice awards are decided by votes received from TPS members, who received their ballots in their e-mails earlier this month.

People's choice awards come from subscribers to the Seattle Performs e-newsletter, who also received THEIR ballots in their emails earlier this month.

People should vote for me for my work with Thistle Theatre this year as the mother and Grandmutti and Greta the rabbit in "Little Red Riding Hood," as Cleotilde and the cockroach leader in "Brother Coyote and Sister Fox," and as the ship's computer and Queen Xenovia in "Quest For Planet X: The Space Musical."

They should also select me for my performance as Mad Margaret in Northwest Savoyards' production of "Ruddigore."

Readers of this blog will remember my favorable reviews for that show.

The Journal Media Group said I had a "crazed abandon worthy of Lucia di Lammermoor," while the Mukilteo Beacon said "Gina Wilhelm steals the show as well as a heart or two as Margaret."

Ballots must be submitted by September 4th to receive consideration. Don't delay. Vote now!
