Broadway in Chicago has announced that Rachel York will be playing Cruella de Vil in the new Broadway production of "101 Dalmations."

The musical is an adaptation of the 1956 story by Dodie Smith.

York is a Drama Desk winner who has appeared on the Great White Way in "City of Angels" and "Les Misérables." She also was in "Victor/Victoria" with Dame Julie Andrews.

She has also starred in "The Scarlet Pimpernel," "Sly Fox," and "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels."

The production team includes Tony Award winning director Jerry Zaks, bookwriter and co-lyricist BT McNicholl, and composer and co-lyricist Dennis DeYoung, who also founded the rock band STYX.

York said that the story was one of her favorites as a child, and Cruella de Vil is one of her all-time favorite characters.

The play also stars 15 real Dalmations, many of which were rescued from animal shelters.
