It's the holiday season, and that means it's time for Thistle Theatre's holiday show. This year we present "The Gingerbread Boy" at various locations throughout the Seattle area.
Our story takes place in Candyland, where all the world's sweets are made. I play Sweetie, the candy cooker. She makes lollipops and gumdrops and cookie icing.
I also play Pepper Mint, the shipping coordinator of Candyland, who must chase down the naughty gingerbread boy when he steals the knob that controls all the sweet treats made in Candyland.
All voices and songs are performed live by me and fellow puppeteers Brian Stabile and Ben Burris. We use a variety of puppet styles including Japanese Bunraku-style and rod puppets to tell and sing this take on the traditional tale.
The script and songs were written by Jean Enticknap and Sue Ennis. Jean also directed this lively production.
This show is recommended for ages 3 and up.

Mockingbird Lane
Gina Wilhelm Actress - Mockingbird Lane
NBC aired "Mockingbird Lane" Friday night.
The program, produced by "Pushing Daisies" creator Bryan Fuller, was intended to be a reboot and update to "The Munsters."
This version was far grittier than the original, meant to appeal to audiences who watch "Once Upon A Time," "True Blood," and "Grimm." In fact, "Mockingbird Lane" gave a modest ratings bump to the latter show.
"Mockingbird Lane" featured Jerry O'Connell as Herman, still constructed from other body parts, but with a less square head. The role was originated by Fred Gwynne.
Portia de Rossi played Lily, and Eddie Izzard was Grandpa.
The program was originally intended as a pilot for a new TV series. That series was never picked up, though there is speculation that if the ratings had been high enough, NBC would have ordered more episodes.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Gina Wilhelm Actress - Goldilocks and the Three Bears
It's summertime, and that means it's time for Thistle Theatre's summer tour. This summer we present "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" at various locations throughout the Seattle area.
All voices and songs are performed live by me and fellow puppeteers Brian Stabile and Lisa A. Haslbauer. We use Japanese Bunraku-style puppets, rod puppets, and song to tell this a take on the traditional tale.
The script and songs were written by Jean Enticknap and Sue Ennus. Jean also directed this lively production.
In our version of the show, the bears travel from their home in Yellowstone Park to Hollywood in their trailer. Meanwhile, Goldilocks is a California girl with a pet duck and a BIG imagination.
This show is recommended for ages 3 and up.
I play Mama Bear. Reviews of the show when we performed in theaters said, "Skilled puppetry is the heart of this show and the most enjoyable aspect."
All library shows this summer are free. Our Emerald Downs show is free with admission to the track. Come see this fun puppet show before time runs out!

Seattle Dance
Gina Wilhelm Actress - Seattle Dance
This Saturday, June 16, is the day of my big tap dance recital with Anthony Peters' Tap Dance Seattle.
There are two performances, one at 1 p.m. and the second at 3:15 p.m. Both are at the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center, 104 17th Ave S., Seattle.
Tickets can by bought at the door or through Brown Paper Tickets. They are $14 for general admission, $8 for students and seniors.
The day starts early with a tech rehearsal, with some dancers teching as early as 9:30!
I am excited about the adorable outfit I get to wear. The last time I was in a dance recital, it was for children's ballet, and I wore a pretty red satin dress.
Now I am a grown-up, and get to wear cool black. I'm wearing a shirt from the studio, and a really great skirt.
My class is dancing to Lou Rawls singing "Scotch and Soda." It's very groovy, y'all.
I'm very excited for this recital. I hope to see you seeing me there!

National Day of Puppetry
Gina Wilhelm Actress - National Day of Puppetry
April 28th was the National Day of Puppetry. Gina Wilhelm Actress celebrated by watching some excellent puppets and puppetry in "Ghostbusters" in 70 mm at the beautiful Cinerama in Seattle.
The film was preceded by a talk from Sam Longoria, who worked on the film, including in some capacities with the onionhead/"Slimer" puppet.
Several puppet centers held workshops and other special events, including the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, GA, and the Puppet Guild of Greater St. Louis, Inc.
My celebration will continue this week with the opening of Thistle Theatre's production of Goldilocks and the Three Bears at Sunset Hill Community Club in Ballard, WA (3003 NW 66th Street). Shows are Friday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m., and May 5 and 6 at 1 and 3 p.m. Tickets are $8 for children and seniors, $9 for adults.
I will also be performing with Thistle Theatre at the Fussy Cloud Puppet Slam on May 5 at 8 p.m. at Theatre off Jackson, 409 7th Avenue South. Tickets are $10.
Happy National Day of Puppetry!

Tap Dance Classes Seattle
Gina Wilhelm Actress - Tap Dance Classes Seattle
Today I started a new quarter of tap dance classes Seattle, the winter session of classes at Anthony Peters' Tap Dance Seattle.
My teacher, Anthony Peters, studied with tap icon Jerry Ames in New York City. Anthony performed in the Jerry Ames Tap Dance Company and the Gail Conrad Tap Dance Theatre. Both companies were important in the tap dance revival of the 1980's. Anthony's a skilled tap technician, and a good (and very entertaining) instructor!
I am pleased and proud to have received the 2011 Tap Dance Scholarship from The WILD SIDE Foundation (a charitable and educational non-profit, based in Hollywood, California, which benefits artistic and gifted performers of all ages).
I am grateful to The WILD SIDE Foundation for this generous scholarship.
I look forward to a new quarter of fun tap combos! Tap tap tappity tap tap!
