Gina Wilhelm Actress - Lisa Ray's Journey to Acting
Lisa Ray didn't set out to be an actress. Originally the star of Deepa Mehta's "Water" had set out to be a journalist.
She said she was more inclined to write because she is an introvert.
She first got into modelling after she finished high school in Canada. She moved to India to increase her opportunities.
She was noticed by Indian filmmakers in a print advertisement.
Ray is of Polish and Indian heritage, which she has found to be both an asset and a drawback. She says she doesn't feel stereotyped.
At the same time, she sometimes hears that she doesn't look "Indian enough" for certain roles.
