Gina Wilhelm Actress - Older Actress White is "Hot"
Earlier this blog reported about the online campaign to get veteran actress Betty White to host "Saturday Night Live." That campaign worked, and the 88-year-old White will host the comedy show on May 8.
It's been reported that former "SNL" cast members will also appear on the show, including Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch, and Maya Rudolph, though NBC would not confirm that.
It will be her first time hosting the sketch program.
In addition, she's about to star in the first scripted original sitcom to appear on the network TV Land, called "Hot in Cleveland."
That show will costar Jane Leeves, Valerie Bertinelli, and Wendie Malick. A great cast, led by a great veteran actress with an over-50-year career.

Tina Fey received a best guest actress in a comedy Emmy for her imitation of Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin on "Saturday Night Live."
The award was given as part of the Creative Arts Primetime Emmys, which were presented September 12.
At the same ceremony, Ellen Burstyn was given the prize for best guest actress on a drama for her work on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."
Burstyn had received five nominations, but this was her first win.
These awards precede the main ceremony, which will be held next Sunday, September 20, and will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.
Fey has an opportunity to win more Emmys at that ceremony, where she is nominated for best actress in a comedy for her starring role in "30 Rock."

The Los Angeles Times' Awards Insider column is already handicapping Laura Linney's chances of winning an Emmy for lead actress in a comedy series next year.
Tom O'Neil, the writer of the column, has already decided that Tina Fey will win again this year for "30 Rock," and so has moved on to next year's contest.
Linney is set to star in "The C Word" on Showtime, her series debut. In the hour-long comedy, Linney plays a suburban housewife facing cancer.
Showtime president Robert Greenblatt voiced his confidence in Linney, saying, "She will no doubt make this character both heartbreaking and disarmingly funny."
He added that he was thrilled she had chosen this show for her series debut.
Laura Linney has already won an Emmy every time she's been nominated. Her most recent win was for lead actress in a movie or miniseries for her portrayal of Abigail Adams in "John Adams."
She also won in the same category in 2002 for "Wild Iris." She also won for guest actress in a comedy series for her work in "Frasier" in 2004.
Linney has also received three Oscar nominations, two for lead actress in "You Can Count on Me" and "The Savages" and one for supporting actress in "Kinsey."

It's getting close to Emmy nomination time, so the Los Angeles Times is picking who they expect to receive nominations. Today they look at lead comedy actress.
This year, Tom O'Neil expects all five of last year's nominees to return when nominations are announced on July 16.
Those nominees were Christina Applegate of "Samantha Who?", America Ferrera from "Ugly Betty," Julia Louis-Dreyfus from "The New Adventures of Old Christine," and Mary-Louise Parker of "Weeds."
Those are in addition to last year's winner, Tina Fey from "30 Rock."
However, this year there will be six nominees. Additionally, nominees will be chosen by a popular vote.
O'Neil thinks that means Amy Poehler of "Parks and Recreation" has a good chance, as she's immensely popular, even if her show isn't.
He also thinks Toni Collette of "The United States of Tara" may get the nomination, as shows and movies dealing with multiple personality disorder often are recognized by the academy.
This possibility was highlighted in an earlier post on this blog.

Juggling a Life and a Sitcom
Six actresses sat down with the Hollywood Reporter to talk about how they balance their personal lives and starring on a TV comedy.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, star of "The New Adventures of Old Christine," says she's able to do it because her show is a multicamera series, unlike many of her counterparts.
Because of that, she only has to put in two or three 12-hour days a week instead of the five required on a single-camera series.
Amy Poehler, who stars and produces "Parks & Recreation," says her schedule is pretty crushing. Not only is she in almost every scene, but she also has to write and cast roles on the weekend.
Jane Krakowski of "30 Rock" is in awe of series creator/producer/writer/star Tina Fey, who does all the same things Poehler does, plus go home and write until 2 a.m. every night.
Poehler and Fey both have very small children.
Mary-Louise Parker talked about the fact that fans of a show used to come up to her when she was on "The West Wing" and tell her how much they hated her character.
Now that she's starring on "Weeds," they'll ask her for a dime-bag. Sarah Silverman of "The Sarah Silverman Show" advised laughing like it's the funniest thing she's ever heard.
"It allows you to move on," Silverman explained.
Christina Applegate, star of "Samantha Who?" and former star of "Married With Children" said she doubts she'll ever leave the earlier show behind. Rather, she says, she embraces it.
Louis-Dreyfus says she doesn't think aging women is nearly the problem on television it is in movies.
Poehler pointed out that she was only eight years older than Rachel McAdams when she played her mother in "Mean Girls," further illustrating the inequities of aging in film.
Applegate bemoaned that she was turned down to be on the cover of a magazine because they didn't want anyone over 35. Still, she only feels 20.
Silverman says it's only a problem for her if she's looking at a script and the "girl" part isn't funny.
"I don't need to play the girl who's mad at the main guy anymore. I've done it, and it can be embarrassing."
They also worried about how much the move to high definition was creating problems. "30 Rock" uses real locations and real props.
Poehler pointed out that when they made the move, "Saturday Night Live," where she worked until landing "Parks & Recreation," had to start using thicker makeup and better wigs.
As for ratings, Parker says she doesn't worry about them.
"It's not like I'm going to think, 'I better take off my shirt!' I'm going to take my shirt off anyway."

The Golden Globe ceremony was held last night, January 11, 2009.
Despite an earlier web mistake, it was Kate Winslet, not Anne Hathaway, who took home the best actress in a drama award for her role in "Revolutionary Road."
Winslet also received a supporting actress award for her work in "The Reader."
On the television side of things, Tina Fey won best actress in a comedy series for her work on "30 Rock." The program, which she also writes and produces, won for best television musical or comedy.
The Golden Globes have a reputation for being fairly informal. Mickey Rourke (who won best actor in a drama for "The Wrestler") gave an acceptance speech littered with obscenity.
Fey told her internet critics to "suck it."
In her speech, Kate Winslet said she was unaccustomed to victory. She had been nominated for five previous Golden Globes, but never won.
Now it's on to the Oscars, where Winslet also has five nominations but no wins.

Meryl Streep was nominated for best lead actress both for "Doubt" and "Mamma Mia" in the drama and musical or comedy categories, respectively.
Kate Winslet, meanwhile, was nominated for best lead actress in "Revolutionary Road" and best supporting actress for "The Reader."
