Gina Wilhelm Actress - Viola Davis Negotiating to "Eat, Pray, Love"
Viola Davis, Oscar nominee for "Doubt," is currently in negotiations to appear in the new Julia Roberts film "Eat, Pray, Love."
The movie stars Roberts and Richard Jenkins. Davis' scheduling is currently being worked out.
The film is an adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's memoirs of a woman who goes on a journey of self-discovery after a terrible divorce.
Roberts will play the Gilbert character, while Davis would play her best friend, Delia.

Valentine's Day is Saturday (in case you missed it), and everyone has some sort of plan. However, the majority of them aren't over-the-top.
Oscar nominee Viola Davis has the most romantic plans. She and her husband will probably go to a "grand restaurant," but she says that they really celebrate every day.
Melissa Leo will make a Valentine for her son and receive one from her mother, but otherwise she has no plans.
Teri Hatcher also plans to do most of her celebrating with her daughter, helping her with making Valentines for her school.
Jenna Fischer will be going to the bat mitzvah of a friend's daughter.
About the only actress with a real enthusiasm for the day seemed to be Dakota Fanning, but then, most 14-year-old girls are pretty pro-Valentine's Day.
She says she loves pink and hearts and flowers.

Viola Davis and Taraji P. Henson both received their first nominations for Academy Awards this year for "Doubt" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," respectively.
Both actresses, nominated in the supporting actress category, reflected on the new honors.
Henson screamed silently so as not to wake her baby. She also says costar Brad Pitt (also nominated for an award) was more excited for her than she was.
Viola Davis, who was in a single scene with with Meryl Streep, had her script for four months.
It sounds like the practice paid off.

A number of movies this year take place in other times and places. How do today's actresses give convincing performances? Study.
Viola Davis has been nominated for a Golden Globe and is getting a lot of Oscar buzz for her performance in "Doubt," but originally she had a very different take on her scene.
At first, she approached the scene as a confrontation, the way a woman in 2008 might.
However, writer-director John Patrick Shanley reminded her that the interaction was taking place in 1964, and there had to be a "certain politeness" to it.
She studied Catholicism (her character converts to get her son into a Catholic school), read several books on the time, and watched a lot of film from the civil rights movement.
She took a lot of inspiration from the mother of Emmett Till, who gave a restrained and polite speech after her son's killers were acquitted.
For "The Secret Life of Bees," which also takes place in 1964, Queen Latifah's performance was aided by care packages the director sent the cast.
The care packages had books, movies, and songs of the era.
Elizabeth Banks, who plays Laura Bush in "W," read several books, but also watched the Charlie Rose's interviews with the First Lady.
She said there was such rapport between the two, it was a window into the First Lady's personality.
In addition to actual study, a lot of actresses in period pieces have been aided by their costuming.
Ms. Davis said the way her costume hid her-and the way the overcoat hid the rest of the costume-gave her real insight into her character's motivation.

Viola Davis has only one scene in the movie "Doubt," but she's already been nominated for a Golden Globe and a SAG award.
She's won the National Board of Review's breakout performer of the year award, critics are talking about an Oscar nomination for her.
The actress who played the same role on the Broadway stage, Adriane Lenox, won a Tony for the same role.
Today she gives an informative interview on Twitch.com. She talks about the difference between stage and film acting.
There are some minor spoilers for the film in the interview, but not much worse than you get from watching the trailers.
When asked what she thinks happened with her character's son and the priest played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ms. Davis reveals she doesn't know what happened, but she knows what her character thinks.
Such character development may explain why she's receiving such accolades for her performance.

The Golden Globe nominations were announced yesterday morning. Several actresses were nominated in multiple categories.
Meryl Streep was nominated for best lead actress both for "Doubt" and "Mamma Mia" in the drama and musical or comedy categories, respectively.
Kate Winslet, meanwhile, was nominated for best lead actress in "Revolutionary Road" and best supporting actress for "The Reader."
In addition to Meryl Streep's nomination, Amy Adams and Viola Davis both also received supporting actress nominations for "Doubt."
Over on the TV side, Tina Fey was nominated for best actress for "30 Rock." This is notable, as the show itself was also nominated for best television series musical or comedy, and Tina Fey, of course, created and writes the program.
Also of note, Mariska Hargitay, mentioned in a previous post on this blog, also received a nomination for best actress in a dramatic television series for her work on "Law & Order: SVU."
Congratulations to all the nominees, and good luck!
